Today, SEICAA reflects on the legacy of former President Lyndon B. Johnson, whose domestic policies, including a “war on poverty,” initiated the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. The Act created assistance and service programs (collectively referred to as Community Action Programs) to be delivered by local Community Action Agencies (CAAs) – like SEICAA – in an effort to lower local and national poverty rates. Today, over 1,000 CAAs work to lower poverty rates by providing those in need opportunities to achieve self-sufficiency. The war on poverty continues, but the national poverty rate has never met or surpassed the rates seen during Johnson’s time in office.#helpingpeople #changinglives #CommunityAction #1000strong ...
